alternate, ± sessile, frequently glaucous, often amplexicaul and decurrent. Capitula homogamous,
discoid, solitary, clustered or paniculate. Phyllaries in 1 series. Receptacle flat, alveolate, with margins
of alveoli raised. Flowers with 5 triangular lobes. Style terete.
Pappus in 2-3 series of slender bristles. Derivation of name: lophos - crest; chlaina - cloak, referring to the shape of the floral bracts Worldwide: 19 species in tropical and South Africa Zimbabwe: 3 taxa. |
