Tree Society mapping project

Introduction

Since March 1989 (see Tree Life, 109), the Tree Society of Zimbabwe has been mapping the trees of Zimbabwe on a Quarter Degree Square basis. For many years the project has been managed by Maureen Silva-Jones.

The Tree Society Committee has now agreed that the accumulated records should be made available on this web site. It is hoped that this will stimulate more interest in the mapping exercise, which will continue to operate separately. It will also improve the coverage of the maps on this site.

The electronic records obtained from the Tree Society system consist simply of the Quarter Degree Square with no further details. In most cases, a manual backup such as a list or completed species card, does exist and could be referred to if necessary.

The records mostly date from the period 1989 to 2006, but I understand that some are from earlier years.
