Sprawling shrub up to 1.5 meter, however mainly only tips erect to 15 cm. Branches angular at nodes. Internodes straight. Plant thorny, particularly inflorescence. Flowers pale orange. Stamens, pollen & style also the same orange.

Shrub; Notes: Fine loose dusty soil. Well-drained. Abundant sprawling shrub 2 m. Pale green velvety stem, leaves and buds. Paired thorns at nodes. Petals pale green-yellow with long hairs on margin and inner surface. Stamens white with rose base. Style rose. Ovary terminal, green. Pleasant scent. Fruit dark red, hard, spherical, indehiscent. Seeds large. Fruits eaten by monkeys and baboons.

Shrub; Notes: Well-drained. Small spreading shrub to 30 cm. Hairy stem and leaves with sticky glandstalks on calyx. Stem ridged with 3 brown recurved thorns at nodes. 1 Thorn at each leaf node. Leaves opposite. 2 - 3 branches from each node, opposite. Flowers bright orange - petals with yellow bases. Stamens cream, becoming red near anther. Stigma red, bilobed. Fruit green, shiny, with hairs. Fruit becoming red-brown. Up to 4 septal in fruit, with one seed in each loculus. Calyx persistent in fruit. Many amber-yellow ants walking over stem.
