Goyder, D.J., Gilbert, M.G. & Venter, H.J.T. (2020) Apocynaceae (Part 2) Flora Zambesiaca 7(2)
Lianas with white latex; stems woody, twining. Leaves hairless, petiolate, leathery, broadly ovate to elliptic, base cordate, discolorous, glossy green, pale beneath, secondary veins divaricate. Inflorescences axillary, many-flowered, hairless. Sepals hairless, with colleters at their inner bases. Corolla leathery, deep crimson, purplish or pink. Corolline corona with coronal feet fused to stamens and nectaries forming a collar; stamens arising directly below corona lobes. Gynostegial corona absent. Follicles paired, horizontally opposite. Comment: The current status of this genus is debatable with recent research placing it with Periploca and more recently with Cryptolepis. We follow Goyder et al. in Flora Zambesiaca (vol. 7 pt. 3: 6, 2020) who prefer to maintain this genus as separate. Worldwide: 2 species in Tropical Africa. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
