Description of the genus

Shrubs or lianes. Leaves opposite. Flowers in axillary or terminal cymes, rarely ± solitary. Corolla lobed to more than halfway but with a distinct campanulate tube. Corona consisting of 5 fleshy lobes, inserted at about the middle of the corolla tube, above the base of the stamens. Follicles smooth. Seeds linear or oblong, concave and with a single rib on each face, with an apical tuft of hairs.

Worldwide: c. 26 species in the Old World tropics

Zimbabwe: 5 taxa.
