Description: | Magnificent architectural palm to 12 m. Stem robust, bearing conspicuous nodal rings; crownshaft absent. Leaves: petiole unarmed; leaflets in clusters of 2-5 along each side in various planes. Inflorescence axillary within crown of leaves; paniculate with 1 order of branching, ascending becoming pendulous in fruit; with persistent cowl-like woody peduncular bracts. Flowers: sepals 3, connate; petals 3 valvate, leathery. Fruit 2-3 cm, ovoid, orange. |
