Perennial herb with (in ours) ± prostrate stems rooting at the nodes. Leaves opposite, entire, toothed or (usually) lobed. Phyllaries in 2-3 rows. Capitula radiate, solitary on long peduncles; ray florets female, fertile; rays yellow to orange-yellow; disk florets bisexual, yellow to orange-yellow. Receptacle bearing scales. Achenes irregularly tuberculate, minutely hairy in upper part, with 1-2 caducous aristae. Pappus cup-shaped with 1-2 awns or none. Worldwide: 100 species in tropical and warm regions of the world Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
