Description:
Small erect herb up to 10 cm high, growing from a tuber. Leaves opposite, sessile, linear-lanceolate, 7-9 cm long, hairy and glandular above. Inflorescences lax, terminal and axillary. Corolla tube campanulate, 3-4 mm long, hairy outside; lobes ovate to obovate, 10-12 mm long, spreading, hairy outside, magenta to whitish. Corona with 7-10 mm long, filiform, hairless. Fruit in erect, paired follicles, very narrowly ellipsoid, c. 45 mm long.
Notes: This species was previously believed to occur in Northern South Africa too but that is now considered a different species called R. villicorona.
Derivation of specific name: chimanimaniana: of the Chimanimani Mts.
Habitat: In rocky montane grassland on quartzite sandstone.
