Description:
Small, pink-flowered herb, 1- or less often 2-flowered, flowering before the leaves. Bracts 2. Petals 6. Style lobes 3. Stamens 6, 3 lower down in the tube of the corolla than the other 3. Ovary inferior.
Notes: This species is closely related to Cyrtanthus sanguineus (Lindl.) Walp. and C. thorncroftii C.H. Wright. A specimen at SRGH from northern Zimbabwe was long misidentified as C. thorncroftii but does in fact belong here. Both C. sanguineus and C. thorncroftii are endemic to South Africa.

Habitat: Amongst grass on dry rocky slopes in open Brachystegia woodland
