Description:
Shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, more or less broadly elliptic, up to 13.5 cm long, stiffly papery or somewhat leathery, hairless, sometimes with hairtuft domatia below; margin entire. Flowers in up to 30-flowered umbels, yellowish-cream, small. Fruit round, 5-8 mm in diameter, yellow when ripe, edible.

Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: In Brachystegia woodland, wooded grassland and along margins of forest, usually on sandy soils with a high water table.
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 700 m
Flowering time:Aug - Sep
Worldwide distribution: Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and the Seychelles.

Growth form(s): Tree, shrub over 2 m.
