Description: |
Single-leaved monocarpic herb. Leaf ovate or oblong, usually c. 70–150 mm long, rarely longer up to 350 mm, green on both surfaces, shortly hairy. Inflorescence with flowers tending to be massed at one level, hairy with non-glandular hairs, hairs longer and deflexed in the lower part. Peduncles 1–4, up to 150 mm long; pedicels up to 20 mm long; bracts linear, c.5 mm long. Calyx divided almost to the base into 5 linear-lanceolate segments 2–3 mm long, shortly pubescent. Corolla very light violet; tube cylindric, 3–5 mm in diameter, 22–36 mm long, pubescent outside, sometimes wholly white, sometimes light to medium violet inside and on the lobes, often with slightly darker patches in the throat; corolla lobes small in relation to tube, more or less spreading, upper two 2–5 mm long and wide, lower lip 5–8 mm long, lobes 3–6 mm long and wide, all rounded. Fruit slender, 50–80 mm long, shortly pubescent. |
Notes: | Although the occurrence of this species is documented in literature is somehow seems unlikely that a taxon with an otherwise restricted distribution in northern Malawi/Zambia and Southern Tanzania would have found its way to one location in Eastern Zimbabwe, more than 1000 km further South. |
