Description:
Erect perennial herb or subshrub, to 1 m. Stems with long fine white hairs. Leaves 3-6 × 1-3.5 cm, ± triangular; base usually cordate. Whorls 6-10-flowered. Corolla 20-24 mm, usually a brilliant scarlet, less often pink, salmon-pink or white; posterior (‘upper’) lip straight; anterior (‘lower’) lip broader and longer than the posterior; stamens long exserted.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: coccinea: scarlet
Habitat: A weed of disturbed ground, roadsides and degraded woodland.
