| Description: |
Erect annual herb, up to c. 1 m tall. Leaves opposite, linear-lanceolate, 4-9 cm long, hairy on both surfaces; margin sparsely crenate-dentate. Flowers in 1-3 many-flowered, spherical clusters (verticils). Bracteoles numerous, filiform, up to 1 cm long, densely hairy, spine-tipped. Calyx whitish with green ribs, usually 5-toothed. Corolla usually white. |
| Notes: | Note: This species is generally very similar to Acrotome inflata. It can be distinguished by the much narrower leaves, particularly on the lower stems. It also has antrorse hairs on the stems and leaves, while in A. inflata the hairs are retrorse. A. angustifolia is more restricted to the Kalahari sand of Western Zimbabwe and does not usually become a weedy species of disturbed areas. The distribution of the 2 species does not appear to overlap within Zimbabwe. |
