Description:
Suffrutex or small shrub, less than 2 m high, usually with several stems arising from a strong woody rootstock, often with some minute hairs. Leaves very variable, 3-foliolate or irregularly pinnatifidly lobed or pinnate; leaflets elliptic to slighly obovate, 35-65 mm long, usually with at least some hairs on midrib and margin, sharply pointed at the apex; petiole 1-9 cm long, sometimes hairy. Flowers small yellowish, in large, densely flowered double umbels, up 18 cm in diameter. Fruit oval, 3-7 mm long, usually hairy and shallowly winged or ribbed.
Notes: See H. stenophylla for comparison.
Derivation of specific name: involucrata: with an involucre, a whorl of bracts subtending the inflorescence.
Habitat: In woodland, often miombo.

Worldwide distribution: Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and northeastern South Africa.
