Description: |
Perennial herb with prostrate main branches and sub-erect branchlets. Leaves crowded on the short fertile, suberect branchlets, opposite, subsessile,ovate-lanceolate to oblong, 0.4-1.6 cm long, hairless on both surfaces or pubescent beneath; margins entire or minutely toothed, ciliolate; stipules linear-lanceolate, 2-3 mm long, glandular pubescent. Flowers axillary, solitary or in 2-3-flowered clusters, white or pink, petals slightly shorter than sepals; stamens 10 with 5 larger, c. 1.5 mm long, opposite the petals. Capsule splitting into 5 valves. |

Derivation of specific name: | pentheriana : named after Arnold Penther (1865-1931), Austrian zoologist who worked in the Zoology Department at the Vienna Natural History Museum and collected in South Africa and Zimbabwe. |
