Description:
See var. gratissimus for general details. This variety can be distinguished by the stellate pubescence on the upper surface of the leaves giving them an olive-green colour and the shorter inflorescences, rarely more than 6 cm long.

Derivation of specific name:
Habitat: On rocky hillsides and outcrops with sandstone and serpentine and also in sandy soils in dry woodland and wooded grassland.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Mpumalanga South Africa.
