Description:
Shrub or small deciduous tree, often forming thickets. Bark grey with brown lenticels, peeling in yellowish papery pieces revealing the green underbark; branchlets not spine-tipped, densely velvety. Leaves imparipinnate with 2-4 pairs of leaflets, sometimes 3-foliolate; leaflets small, up to c. 2 × 1 cm, elliptic-oblong, velvety on both surfaces, terminal leaflet largest with a longer petiolule; margin scalloped or toothed except near the base. Flowers in stalked heads on the spur-branchlets, small yellow, appearing with the young leaves. Fruit ovoid-spherical, c. 1 cm in diameter, velvety, pink when ripe. Seeds with a 2-lobed pseudaril only covering the lower part.

Habitat: Occurring in hot dry deciduous woodland on Kalahari sand, often with Baikiaea plurijuga and Colophospermum mopane.
