Description:
Herb with annual stems, erect, up to 40 cm. tall, usually unbranched, arising from a tuber, discoid, subglobose or irregular. Petioles (2)5-25 cm.; leaves spirally arranged, scale-like on the lower stem; normal leaves with lamina elliptic to oblong, lanceolate to linear. Receptacle triangular with three appendages, or variously shaped with 4-14 appendages.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: cuspidata: abruptly ending in a long drawn out point, referring to the long inflorescence appendages.
Habitat: Miombo woodland and thicket
Altitude range: (metres) 600 - 1300 m

Worldwide distribution: From Senegal and South Sudan to Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.
