Description:
Small tree or shrub, up to 12 m, with unisexual flowers on different trees. Leaves narrowly elliptic, 5-10 cm long, abundantly dotted with golden glands, especially beneath; apex acute; margin entire with a few widely spaced teeth. Male spikes 0.8-3 cm; stamens 4. Female spikes 1.2-2.6 cm. Fruits c.2 mm in diameter, spherical, warted, covered with a white wax.

Habitat: Riverine forest and along montane forest margins.

Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical Africa to South Africa as far as the Western Cape.
