Description:
Robust erect epiphytic herb. Stem woody, up to 50 cm. Leaves in 4 to 8 pairs, up to 20 cm, fleshy. Inflorescences from the leaf axils. Flowers fleshy, 2 cm across, sweetly scented, creamy yellow with red-brown spots; lip white.
Notes: This species is very similar to A. praemorsa from India, and they have sometimes been considered conspecific.
Derivation of specific name: pachyglossa: thick-tongued, referring to the fleshy lip.
Habitat: Woodland and riverine forest at low altitudes
Altitude range: (metres) Up to 1000 m
Flowering time:Nov - Mar
Worldwide distribution: Widespread from Congo to Kenya and south to South Africa. Also on Madagascar, Comoros, Seychelles and the Mascarene Islands.
Zimbabwe distribution: E,S
