Description: |
Perennial herb, normally solitary but rarely suckering to form small groups. The plants are usually hidden in vegetation but the tall flowering stems are conspicuous above the grass. The inflorescence is a tall (2 - 3 m) panicle, branched in the top third. The flowers are dull red, the buds typically erect and the open flowers pendulous. |

Derivation of specific name: | christianii: after H. Basil Christian (1871–1950) South African agriculturalist and amateur botanist who lived in Zimbabwe after 1911 and established the gardens at Ewanrigg. |
