Description:
Perennial. Culms 30–200 cm. high, geniculately ascending and rooting at the nodes, often rambling, sometimes almost woody. Inflorescence a panicle 8–18 cm. long, bearing spikelets on branchlets appressed to the primary branches, these puberulous. Spikelets 2.3–3.5 mm. long, elliptic, glabrous or occasionally thinly pubescent. Inferior glume a little truncate or cuspidate cuff up to 0.5 mm. long, but occasionally larger and at the extreme becoming a broadly ovate scale up to 2 mm. long; superior glume acute. Inferior floret with a palea. Superior lemma obscurely mucronate.
