Description: |
Perennial with short oblique rhizome; culms up to 50 cm tall, usually erect, with the leaves confined to the lower 1/3; lowermost leaf sheaths densely imbricate, loose, persistent, irregularly splitting; leaf laminas 3–15 cm × 2–6 mm, flat, linear-lanceolate, glaucous, rigid, narrowed at the apex into a hard blunt point.Inflorescence up to 8 cm × 5–9 mm, erect, purplish-green at first, becoming dark or brownish-red; racemes up to 1.3 cm long.Spikelets 3–3.5 mm long (excluding the awns); glumes scaberulous on the keels above, with an awn up to 2 mm long; fertile lemma 2.3–2.75 mm long, asperulous, the awn up to 50 mm long; second lemma up to 2 mm long, the awn up to 25 mm long; anthers 1–1.5 mm long. |
