Description:
Medium to large evergreen tree. Leaves subsessile, spirally arranged or clustered at the ends of branches, narrowly elliptic, thick and leathery, tapering to a sharp point; margins entire, rolled under. Male cones axillary, pinkish, up to 5 cm long. Female cones blue-grey produced on a conical, fleshy, purple berry-like receptacle.

Habitat: Montane mist forest.

Worldwide distribution: Sudan southwards on the eastern side of Africa reaching Angola and South Africa
