Description of the genus

Tree. Leaves 1-paripinnate, with winged rhachis. Inflorescence a terminal or axillary thyrse. Sepals 5, free. Petals 5. Stamens 5. Ovary 2-locular. Fruit drupe-like, indehiscent. Seeds without an arillode.

Derivation of name: from the Latin: filix, meaning fern, which the leaf resembles.

Worldwide: 3 species, one in Africa and Asia and two in Madagascar.

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
