Description of the genus

Deciduous trees or shrubs, without prickles. Leaves opposite, imparipinnate. Inflorescence of terminal panicles, arising from buds at the ends of previous year’s branches, before or together with the new leafy branches. Flowers unisexual by abortion, 4-merous. Sepals 4, united at base. Petals 4(-6). Male flowers: stamens (6-)8. Female flowers: ovary 4-5-locular. Fruit baccate, indehiscent, spherical, glandular-foveolate, 4-seeded.

Worldwide: 1 species in tropical and NE Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
