Description of the genus

Small, perennial herbs. Stipules membranous, silvery and scarious, hiding the minute leaves. Leaves fleshy. Flowers sessile at the ends of branches. Petals 5. Stamens 5-many. Ovary superior. Style filiform, 3-fid at apex or entire. Capsule dehiscing longitudinally into 3-4 valves.

Worldwide: 22 species in southern Africa, Yemen and S and E Australia

Zimbabwe: 2 taxa.
