Shrublets. Leaves alternate. Stipules 0. Flowers small, solitary or in cymes. Perianth segments 5. Stamens 10, in pairs, alternating with the tepals. Ovary superior, consisting of (3-)5 carpels, with 1 pendulous ovule in each loculus. Styles (3) 5. Fruit a leathery loculicidal capsule, splitting at the top. Seeds 1, flattened, shiny and striate. Worldwide: 15 species in South Africa, extending into Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
