Robust perennial herb of aquatic or marshy situations. Leaves opposite, entire. Inflorescence of elongate spikes, terminal on main stem and branches. Bracts persistent, hyaline. Perianth segments 5; upper tepal longest and narrowest. Pseudostaminodes present. Ovary with a single pendulous ovule. Capsule thin-walled. Worldwide: 1 species in tropical Africa from Nigeria to Sudan south to Mozambique and Zimbabwe; also in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
