Youngia Cass.

Description of the genus

Plants scapose with almost leaves basal; basal leaves pinnately lobed (lyrate). Heads borne in corymbs or panicles. Calyculus of 3–12 bracts. Florets yellow. Achenes of 11–13 spiculate ribs; apex not or weakly beaked. Pappus of basally connate, white bristles.

Derivation of name: named by Cassini for two celebrated Englishmen, one a poet, possibly Edward Young, (1683-1765) the other a physician, possibly Thomas Young, (1773-1829).

Worldwide: Afghanistan to Japan and Central Malesia
