Description of the genus
Erect herbs with rhizomes. Leaves linear, basal and cauline. Flowers on slender pedicels, clustered within spathes. Perianth segments yellow or blue to purple, connate basally for a short distance only, subequal. Stylar branches filiform, entire. Capsule globular. Worldwide: Many species, native to the New World. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
