Description of the genus

Perennial, scabrid herbs (in ours). Leaves opposite, rarely ternate, simple, sessile. Capitula hemispheric, in few-flowered cymes, radiate, heterogamous. Phyllaries 2-seriate, the outer foliaceous, the inner merging in to the receptacular scales. Ray florets female, fertile; rays golden-yellow, 3-dentate; disk florets bisexual, fertile. Receptacular scales obovate. Achenes ± tetragonous. Pappus 0.

Worldwide: 6 species in warm areas of Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
