Perennial herb. Leaves alternate, petiolate, glandular-hairy; margin dentate. Capitula radiate, borne in loose corymbs. Involucre campanulate; phyllaries in 4 rows. Receptacle flat with linear scales as long as the disk florets. Ray florets female, yellow; pappus a crown of scales. Disk florets bisexual, yellow, 5-lobed, the lobes strongly bent backwards; achenes sparsely hairy; pappus of few barbellate bristles in 1 row and a crown of scales. Derivation of name: Philyro -lime tree (Gr); phyllon - leaf (Gr); "leaves like a lime tree". Worldwide: 1 species, occurring in southern Africa Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
