Perennial, small, creeping herbs; stems rooting at nodes. Leaves alternate, petiolate, suborbicular-reniform, crenate to incised. Flowers axillary, 4- to 8-merous, solitary or fasciculate, pedicellate. Calyx 4–8-lobed, lobes somewhat unequal, corolla rotate, tube short, lobes equalling calyx in number or one more, entire, subequal, spreading. Fruit a capsule somewhat compressed, loculicidal. Seeds few, oblong-ovoid, reticulate or smooth. Worldwide: Five species from Western Europe, the Mediterranean, tropical Africa and America. Zimbabwe: 1 taxon. |
