Calyx 4–8-lobed, lobes somewhat unequal, corolla rotate, tube short, lobes equalling calyx in number or one more, entire, subequal, spreading. Fruit a capsule somewhat compressed, loculicidal. Seeds few, oblong-ovoid, reticulate or smooth.

Worldwide: Five species from Western Europe, the Mediterranean, tropical Africa and America.
