PHYLLORHACHIS Trimen

Description of the genus

Perennial. Leaf lamina broad, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic; base sagittate. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, spike-like, consisting of short racemes inserted along a leaf-like rhachis. Spikelets unisexual, axillary inflorescences female, the terminal bisexual. Female spikelets larger than the male. Glumes 2, shorter than the spikelet. Lower floret reduced to a lemma. Upper floret: lemma coriaceous, 5-7-nerved.

Worldwide: 1 species in E and S tropical Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 taxon.
