Description: Tree to 17 m tall. Leaves ovate-oblong, glabrous or becoming so, glossy-green, the margin conspicuously setose-serrate. Flowers white, 6-9 to an umbel. Fruit apple-shaped, very hard and rough, calyx-lobes falling before maturity; flesh very gritty.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: pyrifolia: leaves resembling a pear (Pyrus sp.)
