Description: | Large herbaceous climber, to several meters in height, with stout tendrils. Stems greyish, furrowed. Stipules large, 1-2.5 cm. Leaves ovate, cordate; margin entire; petiole bearing prominent glands (see image no. 3). Flowers 6-9 cm in diameter. Bracts large, c. 3 cm, ovate. Sepals acute. Petals 3 cm, white or pinkish-white. Corona in 5-7 rows, the filaments with white and purple bands. Fruit 6-8 cm, ovoid. |
Notes: | Reported in FZ 4, 408 as 'probably a garden escape', based on a record by Chase (646) at Black Mountain, Cashel in 1948.It is not known whether there are any other Zimbabwean records of this species. |
