Description: | Succulent shrub or often a distinct small tree, up to 3.5 m. This subspecies is particularly tree-like with a central stem or several trunk-like branches from the base. The plants are densely branched and rebranched. Spine shields are often joined to form a horny ridge along the angles. Flowers unisexual, yellow, solitary above the spines. Fruit a capsule, c. 5 mm, exserted on a recurved pedicel. |
