Synonyms:	Acacia buchananii Harms Acacia macrothyrsa Harms Vachellia amythethophylla (Steud. ex A. Rich.) Kyal. & Boatwr.
Common names:	Large-leaved acacia (English)
Description:	Shrub or tree to 7 m. Thorns in pairs at nodes, black, straight, short and inconspicuous. Leaves large (15-30 cm); pinnae 7-14 pairs. Inflorescence large, terminal, much-branched, composed of orange-yellow spherical heads. Fruit flat, dehiscent.
Notes:	This is a very distinctive late-flowering species with large leaves and a large panicles of golden heads.
Derivation of specific name:	amythethophylla: from the Greek (amuthos - without words or countless, phyllon - leaf) and refers to the large number of leaflets.
Flowering time:	Jan - Mar
Worldwide distribution:	From West Africa eastwards to Sudan and Ethiopia, southwards to Zimbabwe and Mozambique
Growth form(s):	Tree, shrub over 2 m.
