Description of the genus

Leaves opposite, paripinnate. Flowers dioecious, in contracted thyrses. Sepals 4, free almost to the base. Petals 4, imbricate. Ovary laterally compressed. Fruit capsule splitting into 2 persistent bilobed valves; central column breaking up into a number of fibrous strands.

Worldwide: 1 species in the southern half of Africa

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
