Description of the genus

Herbs or small shrubs. Leaves (in ours) 5-foliolate, the basal pair often resembling stipules; true stipules reduced to dark glands or 0. Corolla yellow, pink, cream or white, glabrous. Fruit straight, narrowly cylindric, dehiscent into 2 twisted valves.

Worldwide: 100 species, mainly in northern temperate regions, extending to mountainous areas of Africa and Australia

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
