ours), with annual stems arising from a perennial often tuberous
base. Stipules 0. Leaves alternate or rarely sub-opposite
or in a rosette. Flowers in terminal or axillary cymes, racemes or
panicles or solitary. Sepals 2, opposite. Petals 5 (in ours).
Stamens 5-many. Ovary superior, 1-locular; style filiform with 3
stigma lobes. Capsule dehiscing longitudinally by 3
