Description of the genus

Evergreen, perennial herbs, dying back each year, with corms, these coarsely fibrous. Inflorescence composed of spikes in a lax panicle; spikes pendulous, rarely erect (D. plowesii), terminal on wiry, lateral branches. Flowers actinomorphic, campanulate, pink, pendent (apart from D. plowesii). Bracts scarious. Tepals with a short perianth tube. Stamens and style not exserted beyond the tepals. Fruit a capsule.

Worldwide: 44 species from the mountains of E Africa to the Cape
