Description of the genus

Bulbous perennials with solid scapes. Leaves distichous. Inflorescence with numerous flowers in a hemispherical head. Flowers asymmetric, sometimes only slightly so. Tepals with undulate margins. Involucral bracts 2. Fruit dehiscent, membranous.

Worldwide: 22 species, in Zimbabwe and (mainly) South Africa
