Description of the genus

Epiphytic or terrestrial shrubs or scramblers. Lear blades 5-15 pinnately veined. Inflorescence with stalked panicles or crowded clusters; bracts deciduous. Flora tube pubescent to glabrous; calyx truncate, obscurely toothed or 4-6 lobed. Ovary inferior. Fruit a berry. Seeds numerous, ovate to sickle-shaped.

Worldwide: 200-500 species in the Old World from Africa and Madagascar to Taiwan and south to Fiji.

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
