Erect shrubs or creeping perennial herbs. Leaf blades pinnately, or three-veined. Inflorescence of terminal bracteate cymes, or flowers solitary and terminal. Floral tube cylindric; sepals persistent. Petals 4, white, pink or magenta. Fruit a capsule. Seeds numerous, coiled, warty. Worldwide: About 25 species found only in the mountains of Mexico and Central America. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
