Shrubs, evergreen, scandent; young branches quadrangular. Leaves ovate or elliptic-ovate; margins entire to coarsely dentate; apex shortly acuminate, abaxially gland-dotted. Inflorescence of cymes or racemes, rarely panicles, dense, pedunculate, axillary or terminal; bracts lanceolate. Flowers brick-red to orange; calyx petaloid, margins entire with minute dots; corolla tube curved, broadening upward, crimson, unequally 5-lobed. Fruit a drupe, obovoid to globose; 4-lobed, sub-fleshy, enclosed by persistent, enlarged coloured calyx. Worldwide: 1 species from Himalayas to Burma.
