Description of the genus

Differing from Pittosporum in having winged seeds which are not embedded in a sticky substance.

Derivation of name: from the Greek: hymen meaning a membrane and spora seed, referring to the membranous wing on the seed.

Worldwide: 1 species in E Australia and New Guinea

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
