Description of the genus

Evergreen shrubs. Leaves alternate. Inflorescence a dense, terminal head, surrounded by coloured bracts. Flowers bisexual, zygomorphic; perianth tube open on lower side; anthers sessile. Fruit a leathery follicle. Seeds winged.

Worldwide: 5 species in E Australia

Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon.
