Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, crowded in pseudowhorls at the apex of the branches; juvenile leaves opposite. Milky latex present. Inflorescence a dichasium, borne in the axil of a leaf or bud scale. Sepals 5, generally persistent but caducous in confertus. Petals 5, white to cream. Stamens in more than one whorl, united into fascicles opposite the petals. Ovary semi-inferior, 3-locular. Capsule apically loculicidal; top of the ovary not or scarcely exceeding the rim of the hypanthium. Seeds linear-cuneate. Worldwide: 4 species in northern and eastern Australia with one species extending to southern New Guinea. Zimbabwe: 1 cultivated taxon. |
